Frederick II ascended the Prussian throne upon the death of his father, Frederick William I.
Frederick II then invaded the Austrian province of Silesia, more or less starting the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748).
Bonnie Prince Charlie captured Edinburgh. This prompted the singing of the original version of God Save the Queen (at the time, it was God Save the King) in England as a rallying cry to defeat Bonnie Prince Charlie.
