[edit] Life

Abahai was the daughter of Prince Mantai of the Hulun-area Ula Nara tribe and granddaughter of Wangtai, Khan of the Hada. She married Nurhaci in 1602, when she was only twelve years old. After the death of Empress Xiaoci (the natural birth mother of Emperor Hung Taiji) in 1603, she was granted the title of Grand Consort (大妃, Dà Fēi). Abahai was forced to commit suicide by her stepsons, including Hung Taiji who thought that she might be a barrier to his succession. Abahai died in 1626, aged thirty-seven.

[edit] Imperial title

The posthumous title of Empress Xiaolie Wu was conferred on Abahai by her son Dorgon but was revoked after his death. The title in full was:

  • "Empress Xiàoliè Gōng Mǐn Xiàn Zhé Rén Hé Zàn Tiān Lì Shèng Wǔ" (孝烈恭敏献哲仁和赞天俪圣武皇后)
