Area code 916
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
North American area code 916 is a state of California telephone area code which was one of the first three original area codes established in California in October, 1947. It covered the far north portion of the state. It was split in a flash-cut sometime during 1958, creating area code 209. 916 was again split on November 1, 1997 creating area code 530, and at that time Dixon moved from 916 to 707. Today, 916 covers only the state capital of California and its immediate area.

- 916 is the area code used by Turk on the show Scrubs in the episode My Malpractical Decision. He chooses it because it is supposed to spell out 916-Call-Turk. In reality, it actually spells out 916-Call-Tur.
The Davis, CA based rock band Game Theory mentions this area code in the song 'I've Tried Subtlety' from the album Big Shot Chronicles.
"All the kids from 916 came down / And were misdirected trying to find the grounds"
