Sometimes the difference between a bay and a gulf is not very clear. A bay (Russian: Бухта) is commonly an area of water bordered by land on three sides. It also usually has calm waters. A large bay may also be called a gulf, sound or bight, while a narrow bay may be called a fjord or an inlet in certain cases.
