Infantry support weapon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

  (Redirected from Crew-served weapon)
Jump to: navigation, search

An infantry support weapon is a weapon system that requires a crew of more than one individual to operate at optimum efficiency due to its operational complexity--such as requiring one person to load while another fires. However, infantry support weapons include only weapons operated by the members of the infantry, such as light and medium machine guns, infantry mortars with calibers of less than 120 mm (4.72 inches), recoilless rifles, rocket-propelled and automatic grenade launchers, and the large variety of shoulder-launched missile weapons due to their need for at least a team of two to operate them efficiently.

Another term used for infantry support weapon is light weapons.
