Edward Thomas Copson (21 August 1901 - 16 February 1980) was a British mathematician. Copson was a pupil at King Henry VIII School, Coventry, then studied at St. John's College, Oxford and went on to lecture at the University of Edinburgh, University of St. Andrews, the Royal Naval College and eventually becoming the Regius Professor of Mathematics at St Andrews.

Copson’s primary focus was in classical analysis, asymptotic expansions, differential and integral equations, and applications to problems in theoretical physics. His first book "The theory of functions of a complex variable" was published in 1935. [1]
