Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is North America's largest documentary film festival, conference and market, held annually in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The 2009 Festival ran from April 30 to May 10.
The 2009 Festival featured more than 170 films from around the world. Film highlights from the 2009 festival include Act of God, The Cove, The One Man Village, Cooking History, Invisible City, Waterlife, Defamation, Objectified, 65_Redroses, and Old Partner.
The Hot Docs festival was started in 1993 by the Canadian Independent Film Caucus, a national association of independent documentary filmmakers mainly composed of film scholars from York University in Toronto. Much of the festival's success can be credited to the logistical support rendered by scores of volunteers every year.
In addition to the Festival, Hot Docs also runs North America's essential documentary market The Toronto Documentary Forum (TDF).
