John Campbell, 7th Duke of Argyll

John Douglas Edward Henry Campbell, 7th Duke of Argyll FRS (21 December 1777 – 25 April 1847), known as Lord John Campbell until 1839, was a Scottish peer and Whig politician.
A younger son of the Field Marshal 5th Duke of Argyll and the 1st Baroness Hamilton of Hameldon, he was baptised on 18 January 1778 in St James's in Westminster. He succeeded to his older brother's titles in 1839.
Campbell was Member of Parliament (MP) for Argyllshire from 1799 to 1822 and Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland from 1841 to 1846. On 20 May 1819, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS). He died, aged 69, in Inverary Castle in Argyllshire.
Campbell married firstly Elizabeth Campbell, daughter of William Campbell on 3 August 1802, secondly Joan Glassel, daughter of John Glassel on 17 April 1820 as well as thirdly Anne Colquhoun Cuninghame, daughter of John Cuninghame on 8 January 1831. He had a daughter and two sons, including his heir George Campbell by his second wife.
