John T. Pawlikowski

John T. Pawlikowski living in Chicago is a Servite priest and Professor of Social Ethics at the Catholic Theological Union.[1]

As member of the Catholic Theological Union since 1968,[2] Pawlikowski was appointed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council in 1980 by then-President Jimmy Carter. He was subsequently re-appointed by Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. As of 2008, he chaired the Council's Subcommittee on Church Relations and served on its Executive Committee, the Committee on Conscience, and Academic Committee.[1]

Pawlikowski has been critical online of John Cornwell's book Hitler's Pope,[3] which attempted to bring into the open the debate on the role of the Vatican during the Holocaust.

  • Distinguished Service Award from the American Jewish Committee (Chicago)
  • Army Cross of Merit for Distinguished Service to the Polish Nation and from the Republic of Poland.
