[edit] Coventry City

Tuffey started his career in 2003 at Coventry City. He progressed his way through the academy system with the Sky Blues but failed to make a first-team appearance. [2] Tuffey was third choice at Coventry but was a near ever-present for the reserves at the Ricoh Arena.

[edit] 2006/07

Tuffey signed for thistle on 30 May 2006, he said "I have been impressed with what I have seen of both the city and the club. "I felt that I needed a fresh challenge and I am looking forward to my time in Glasgow with Thistle."[3] He made his debut for Partick Thistle on 16 September 2006 in a 2-1 win against Hamilton Accies. In the very next game he conceded 6 goals in a 6-0 defeat to Gretna. He would go on to make 14 more appearances and keeping 4 clean sheets.

[edit] 2007/08

By the 2007/08 season and with Thistle under new management he had cemented his place as Thistle's number 1 goalkeper. The season got off to a good start, having lost only 1 game in the first 6. In March 2008 he won the First Division player of the month award[4] as they were unbeaten in March and held Rangers to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.[5] The reaplay was held on 13 April at Firhill, depspite Thistle losing 2-0[6] Tuffey put in an outstanding performance including a penalty save from Daniel Cousin.[7]

[edit] 2008/09

Tuffey has been excellent for the Jags all season being linked to moves to Rangers, Swansea, Hibs and Hearts. [8]

On 24 January 2009 in a 2-2 away match to Queen of the South[9] , Tuffey proved he's the best goalkeeper in the First Division with a breathtaking display to help Jags secure a point. The Northern Ireland international produced three stunning saves to keep the Doonhamers at bay before Scott Chaplain fired home a late leveller.[10] On March 7, 2009 in a 1-0 home defeat to Clyde[11] , Tuffey made an uncharacteristic mistake when he completely misjudged a firm backpass from defender Ian Maxwell.[12]

During the 2008/09 season he has so far started all 36 league games for thistle and keeping 14 clean sheets.

[edit] International career

[edit] Northern Ireland Under-21s

Tuffey received 13 caps and during 2007/2008 he featured as the Captain of the Northern Ireland Under 21 side on several occasions. On 1 June 2007 tuffey produced a wonderful display when Northern Ireland earned a 1-0 [13] in their opening European Championship qualifier in Moldova. He produced three fine saves before half-time to keep his team ahead.[14]

[edit] Northern Ireland

He gained his first full cap on 19 November 2008 in a 2-0 defeat to Hungary. In gaining his first full international cap Jonny becomes the 28th player to be capped for his country while playing for Partick Thistle and became the sixth Partick Thistle player to be capped by a country other than Scotland,[15] and the first since Adrian Madaschi who played four times for Australia in the summer of 2004. After the game he said “It was fantastic, it was something that I have dreamed about since I was a boy. It’s been a long journey to get here but now that the cap has come I’m over the moon."[16]

He gained his second full cap and first start on 6 June 2009 in a 3-0 defeat to world champions Italy. He produced a number of saves including a Giampaolo Pazzini penalty.[17]
