Les Ulis is a Francilienne commune of Essonne located in the southwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is 23 km (14 miles) from the center of Paris.

The commune of Les Ulis has only recently come into existence: it was created on February 19, 1977 by detaching territory from the communes of Orsay and Bures-sur-Yvette.

At the 1999 census, the population was 25,785. The estimate for 2005 was 24,900.

Inhabitants of Les Ulis are known as Ulissiens.

Les Ulis is served by no station of the Paris Métro, RER, or suburban rail network. The closest station to Les Ulis is Bures-sur-Yvette station on Paris RER line B. This station is located in the neighboring commune of Bures-sur-Yvette, 1.6 km (1 mile) from the center of Les Ulis. Another popular station close to Les Ulis is Massy-Palaiseau RER station. Many shuttles transport commuters from the center of Les Ulis to the RER stations.

The biggest industrial area (tertiary) in Europe[2] is concentrated in Parc d'Activité de Courtabœuf (area: 378 ha) with more than 1000 companies employing 24,500 people. This area is spread over three communes: Les Ulis (mainly), Villebon-sur-Yvette and Villejust. Many companies such as Microsoft, Hewlett Packard and Apple Computer have their French head offices in this area.
