From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The following is an episode list for the television series Smallville, which was developed for television by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. In the United States, the first episode of the series originally aired on October 16, 2001.[1] The first five seasons were broadcast on The WB; following The WB's merger with UPN in September 2006, Smallville continued to be aired on the new, combined network, dubbed The CW.[2] An eighth season officially began on September 18, 2008.[1] As of July 6, 2009, 174 episodes have aired. The CW has picked up Smallville for a ninth season to premiere on September 25, 2009.[3] The first seven seasons are currently available on DVD in Regions 1, 2, and 4. Since the series premiered, it has averaged 4.76 million viewers per episode over its eight seasons.
Smallville follows the life of a teenage Clark Kent (Tom Welling) living in the town of Smallville, Kansas at the beginning of the 21st century. Clark Kent copes with his emerging superpowers (x-ray vision, super hearing, etc.), exploration of his extraterrestrial origins and discovering his true destiny. The series also deals with the people in Clark Kent's life: his human parents, Jonathan Kent (John Schneider) and Martha Kent (Annette O'Toole); his friends Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack) and Pete Ross (Sam Jones III); his sometime love interest Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk); Chloe's cousin Lois Lane (Erica Durance); and his friendship with Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) and how this gradually decays into their mutual enmity of legend.

[edit] Season 9 (2009)
The ninth season of Smallville is set to premiere on September 25, 2009.[3] Brian Austin Green has been confirmed to portray Metallo for at least two episodes this season.[5] Callum Blue has also been confirmed to portray General Zod as a series regular. His character was first mentioned in season five, when Brainiac used Lex Luthor's body as a physical vessel for Zod's spirit to inhabit.[6] In an interview, Justin Hartley revealed that season nine will partially deal with Oliver having to battle his personal demons: "I think he is going to struggle with the things he has been afforded (as a result of) his powers. He has sacrificed things and done things that haunt him… It’s bad stuff. We need to get to the bottom of it."[7]
