- 1912 - The Republic of China is established. In Taiwan, it is the Founding of Republic of China Day.
- 1979 - Formal diplomatic relations are established between the People's Republic of China and the United States of America.
- 2002 - Taiwan officially joins the World Trade Organization, as Chinese Taipei.

- 1935 - Opening of the three day Zunyi Conference of the Communist Party of China (CPC), held during the Long March to escape destruction by the Kuomingtang forces of Chiang Kai-shek. During the conference, Mao Zedong asserted control over the Chinese Red Army (紅軍), and eventually the CPC.
