[edit] Solar energy

Hi John. I think this article about solar-thermal technology might interest you. I has a comprehensive account of this technology that might be used to improve some of the related Wiki articles.--Mariordo (talk) 15:20, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks Mariordo... Johnfos (talk) 20:59, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] The Great Betrayal: Fraud In Science

Hello. I noticed that you added this article. Could you extend the article by a couple sentences? Perhaps a book review you found accurate? This is a subject in which I have some special interest (and in fact, just declined (!) to answer answer a survey related to it [1]. Perhaps you'd be interested in the survey). It strikes me there might be some overlap between The Great Betrayal and a disturbing book I've read a couple times The Cheating Culture: Why More Americans are Doing Wrong to Get Ahead. [edit] Your recent article

I couldn't help when looking at it feel that it would be better as a disambiguation page than a "list" page, since otherwise it veers a bit on WP:LISTCRUFT. Cheers. ηoian ‡orever ηew ‡rontiers 05:18, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Oyster Creek

Hi, John. You removed

“This has been the most extensive license renewal review to date, including the first adjudicatory hearing of a license renewal application,” said Eric Leeds, NRC’s director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. “The staff’s licensing and inspection scrutiny, along with the independent contributions of the ACRS, the ASLB and various citizen groups, should give the people of New Jersey added confidence that Oyster Creek will remain safe during its continued operation.” <ref>[http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/news/2009/09-067.html NRC RENEWS OPERATING LICENSE FOR OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT FOR AN ADDITIONAL 20 YEARS]</ref>

from Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station, calling it a copyright violation. But it's a quote, and marked as such — and it's from a US government press release, so it ought to be in the public domain.

Hi WW, my mistake, I will add it back... Johnfos (talk) 00:02, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Fowler Ridge Wind Farm photos

See:

I uploaded them from this Flickr photoset:

since the photographer used a suitably free license. The photoset includes components of a wind farm that we do not often see (transformers, substation, power lines). Incidentally, for a mere $2/month extra I am purchasing 200 kWh/month from this wind farm from Duke Energy. I don't know whether any electricity from the wind farm actually makes it as far as Cincinnati where I live. I suppose it is possible if Indianapolis (which is between Cincinnati and the wind farm) does not use it all. I found another nice photo set of this wind farm, but unfortunately the photographer used a {{noncommercial}} license so we cannot upload them to Commons:

You continue to do good things, and one day I hope we may see that Wind farms as tourist attractions list that you spoke of a while ago... Johnfos (talk) 02:01, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually it seems I lied. The green power I purchase comes from Duke Energy which buys power from the neighboring Goodland I Wind Farm rather than Fowler Ridge.

Check this out:
I'm working on a gallery page on Commons, in my userspace currently and still messy:
Since the list of wind turbines on public display will consist more of photos than text, I will start it first on Commons. Then maybe later I can make a version on Wikipedia - or maybe it works better as a gallery. Commons seems to have fewer deletionists, so I can start collecting information there and work on the format and so on. It will be nice to have a gallery page that shows all the photographs we can find of wind turbines on display around the world. I have never seen a source anywhere that pulls together all the available content with this theme. Most coverage of wind turbines on public display tends to focus on particular wind farms or wind turbines. Perhaps nobody has tried to show the big picture of this phenomenon before. It could be a resource for informing public debates about wind farms, when opponents voice fears of negative impact on tourism etc. --Teratornis (talk) 02:28, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] GA Sweeps July update

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 290 articles were swept in June! Last month was our second most successful month in reviewing articles (after May). We are currently over 70% done with Sweeps, with just under 800 articles left to review. With nearly 50 members, that averages out to about 15 articles per person. If each member reviews an article every other day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. This may sound difficult, but if everyone completes their reviews, Sweeps would be completed in less than two years when we first started (with only four members!). With the conclusion of Sweeps, each editor could spend more time writing GAs, reviewing at the backlogged GAN, or focusing on other GARs. Again, I want to thank you for using your time to ensure the quality of the older GAs. Feel free to recruit other editors who have reviewed GANs in the past and might be interested in the process. The more editors, the less the workload, and hopefully the faster this will be completed. If you have any questions about reviews or the process let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 17:54, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
