Zhangzhou Normal University (漳州师范学院, POJ: Chiong chiu su hoan hak oan) is a public university located in Zhangzhou, Fujian, China.

Zhangzhou Normal University is one of the key universities in Fujian Province. It is situated in Zhangzhou, a well-known historical and cultural city on the west coast of Taiwan Straits, and an open-up city in southern Fujian Province known as a land of foods and flowers.

The university was formerly known as Fujian No.2 Normal College founded in 1963. In 1986, with the approval of the State Education Committee, the former Fujian No.2 Normal College was renamed as Zhangzhou Normal University. In 1992, the university was authorized to confer bachelor degrees, and in 2000 it was among the first batch of normal colleges and universities in passing the qualification evaluation by the Ministry of Education in the teaching of undergraduates. In 2003, it was authorized to confer master degrees after passing the evaluation by the Academic Degree Apraisal Committee of the State Council, and began to take in candidates of master degrees. In 2008, Zhangzhou Normal University received a straight-A score in the undergraduate level Teaching Appraisal organized by the Ministry of Education.

he university currently consists of 18 departments or schools such as Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Department of Mathematics and Information Science, and School of Overseas Education. As many as 47 undergraduate programs and 12 master programs have been offered to students.

The university’s matriculation is open to students from all over the country and from abroad, and now it has a total enrollment of 25,699, including 17,892 full-time undergraduate students, 148 master students and 7,659 adult education students, establishing an educational framework of various disciplines and levels.

Zhangzhou Normal University covers a total area of 1,153,000 square meters, with a total floor space of 510,000 square meters, having a library with 1,265,000 volumes of paper books and 1,108,000 volumes of electronic books and periodicals.

Zhangzhou Normal University has set up 26 research institutes such as Fujian-Taiwan Cultural Research Institute, Educational Science Research Institute, Applied Psychology Research Institute, Applied Chemistry Research Institute and Human Resources Research Institute. It now has 2 provincial key laboratories, 1 provincial humanity and social sciences base and 6 provincial key disciplines. By hosting some important international and domestic academic symposiums such as the International Symposium of Chinese Style of Metrical Composition, the International Symposium of General Topology and the International Symposium of Lin Yutang Study, the university has greatly improved its ability of scientific research. Since 2004, the university has been permitted to set up 450 items of scientific research in all types, among which 6 are state-funded projects of natural science, 3 are state-funded projects of social science and 3 are humanity and social sciences projects funded by the Ministry of Education, with 12 items were awarded prizes at provincial and ministerial levels of achievements in scientific research; Moreover, 2,631 pieces of theses were pulished on academic periodicals at home and abroad with 134 pieces included in SCI, EI and ISTP, the three leading academic search of the world.
Empowered by the drive of intensifying reforms and holding the development as the theme with disciplinary construction at the core, Zhangzhou Normal University is now sticking to the guiding principle of educational renovation and setting up cooperative linkage with domestic and overseas higher education and research institutes, in order to make itself into a comprehensive university of relatively large scale with outstanding educational merits and characteristics.
